Attacks On Ndi Igbo During 2023 Elections in Nigeria – What The Igbo Must Do To Survive
The 2023 elections in Nigeria were marred with violence and intimidation. The greater part of the violence was targeted against the Igbo, especially those who live in Lagos.
In the months leading to the 2023 presidential elections, we saw an increase in anti-Igbo rhetoric all over social media, with threats coming from various groups in Yoruba land.
These threats were against Ndi Igbo whose kinsman Peter Obi was contesting the presidency and had a popularity that swallowed the Yoruba candidate, Asiwaju Tinubu.
The threats continued and would culminate in the burning of Igbo businesses and attacks on their lives. These attacks were recorded during the Presidential and Governorship elections respectively, in Lagos state. And even after the elections, Igbo businesses have continued to be burnt in Lagos, all in a bid to provoke Ndi Igbo into an ethnic conflict, and in turn, for them to lose their, livelihood and properties.
These attacks on the Igbo are not new, as every election cycle has seen the Igbo blood being spilled, either in the Northern part of Nigeria or in the South. It is high time for Ndi Igbo to take certain assertive steps towards their survival, or else risk it all in a Nigeria that is always willing to spill their blood and burn their businesses for political and social reasons.
We at Voice Of The Sun have discussed the ugly events of the 2023 elections in Nigeria and how they affected Ndi Igbo.
