Igbo Filmmaker, Sopulu Onyibor, Moves To Provide Sanitary Pads For Young Girls In Igbo Land Through His Foundation’s ‘Pad A Girl Child’ Campaign

It gives us great joy to announce this year’s edition of the ‘Pad A Girl Child‘ Campaign by the Sopulu Onyibor Foundation. The ‘Pad A Girl Child Campaign’ which is organized yearly by the Sopulu Onyibor Foundation aims to eradicate period poverty and educate the girl child on the importance of menstrual hygiene.

Our people say that “Nwanyị bụ ugwu”, meaning that a “woman holds respect OR that a woman embodies respect.” And as such we Ndi Igbo take pride in the nurture and upbringing of our female children because they become the mothers who will carry our children and nurture the next generations.  

Sopuluchukwu Onyibor is soliciting your support and partnership towards this year’s campaign which will take place on the 28th of May, 2024 in selected schools in Anambra. His target is to sensitize and give out at least 3,000 (Three thousand) sanitary pads to secondary school girls, and the figure is targeted at N1,000 (One Thousand hundred Naira) per pad.

We Ndi Igbo respect and value our girls, wives, and mothers. And as such it makes us proud to see young men like Sopulu Onyibor taking up a worthy course in nurturing and protecting our young girls, by providing them with sanitary pads and education on menstrual hygiene.

Sopuluchukwu Onyibor is a native of Awka in Anambra State, Nigeria. He is a graduate of Theatre and film studies, from Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka. He is also a Filmmaker, event, and talent manager & philanthropist. Sopulu Onyibor Foundation is a charity organization that aims to provide financial aid, grant scholarships, and organize charity events to improve society.  

PAD A GIRL CHILD CAMPAIGN is a campaign geared towards eradicating period poverty and educating the girl child on the importance of menstrual hygiene. He kickstarted the Pad a Girl Child campaign in 2021, and since then he and his team have been able to give out over 3000 sanitary pads free of charge to secondary school girls.
