Ìgbò Historian Chijioke Ngobili Publishes a Groundbreaking Book Titled Úgwú Nwasike
Chijioke Ngobili Publishes Úgwú Nwasike: Some of the assets of any society are its historians, men, and women who can tell its story of existence. They are the true guardians of our heritage. The works and contributions of Chijioke Ngobili to Igbo history have gained him a spot as a true guardian of our heritage, as Ndi Igbo.
Umu Igbo, it gives us immense excitement and pride to announce the publication of this prestigious book written by one of our illustrious sons, Chijioke Ngobili, entitled Úgwú Nwasike: The Man, The Name, The Monument, published this December, of 2022.
Úgwú Nwasike is an exercise in the writing of Nigerian/African family histories and his humble contribution to studies in Ìgbò history and culture. It traverses various subjects of Ìgbò history and studies including the pre-colonial Ìgbòland, Ìgbò names/naming, Ìgbò spirituality/religion, the advent of Christianity in Ìgbòland, Ìgbò warrant chiefs, early Ìgbò Christian women/gender relations, early Ìgbò modern apprenticeship & entrepreneurship, colonial Ìgbòland, Nigeria–Biafra War, among others. The 318-page book deals with these and other subjects focusing on the life and times of *Warrant Chief T. M. Nwasike* of Ikenga, Ògídí – Anambra State, Nigeria.
“Úgwú Nwasike” is already a bell ringer to millions of people who have traveled and have been traveling from Ọnịcha (Onitsha) to Ọka (Awka) and Enugwu and vice versa since the 1930s as well as to anyone who comes from or has lived in/around Ọnịcha, Obosi, Ògídí, Mkpọọ (Nkpor), Ogbunike and the surrounding towns.
Indeed, there are points of historical intersections between Ògídí, the neighboring towns, and various parts of Ìgbòland and Old Eastern Nigeria in the book. The phenomenal story of how “Úgwú Nwasike” emerged as one of the most famous landmarks of urban Ìgbò spaces is also what a reader would want to find out from the book.
While the Nwasike Family of Ikenga – Ògídí plans to fully launch the book to the public by Easter of the next year 2023, copies are available for purchase at ₦10,000 per copy. You’re welcome to reach out to the author if you wish to purchase a copy of the book.
Impressive discounts are available for bulk purchases. If you’re in Lagos and/or want to order from there, you can call or message this number: +234 810 100 0019.
